Strangest comment of the week

As a professional matchmaker, I can honestly say that I learn something new every day. I’ve also heard my fair share of “strange”, and the conversation I just had goes up at the top of that list! A girl phoned the office yesterday and we were covering the general information for females and how the ALI application process works. Then, apparently surprised at how ‘female-friendly’ we appeared to be, she mentioned she had spoken with another service that told her women do not pay and therefore would have to go out on the dates that were presented to them and would not have a choice. Basically, they said that the paying men are their clients and the women would be set up according to man’s choice.

I sat in a stunned silence on the other end of the phone before finally getting my thought out: THAT IS INSANE. How is that possible? BOTH sides should have a choice, and BOTH sides should be told just as much information about the other - not just a name and age along with “now go out with him.” How can ANYONE make a true match by only paying attention to one side? I don’t get it, is it just me?

It has always surprised me when people have asked me in the past, “So, are the men your clients or do women pay too?” I always give them the same answer:

Even though our women are not paying clients, we have ALWAYS regarded them as such. They are the client as much as the men are. In fact they are among our most important clients, since we are only as good as our female membership at the end of the day. Our men know why we think this way, and they thank us for having such a great relationship with the women, which in turn, allows them access to these great girls! So keep thinking that the only person worth your attention is the paying client, and see what you end up with.

Hence, why we attract to work with the highest caliber of single ladies; Yes, it’s twice the work at the end of the day, but that’s the ONLY way you are going to earn their trust, and earn your reputation to have them want to use your services. Such incredible women wouldn’t put up with any less, and our bachelors don’t want to meet the type of woman who would!

ALI is always about quality matches that are cross-checked with both parties. THIS is how so many of our clients end up in relationships. Gentleman, wouldn’t you like to go out with a girl you know has some level of interest in you as well? Or does it just matter that she’s hot? Wouldn’t it be nice if she is both hot and also interested having heard enough about you before making the choice to be introduced to you? Lol! I’m sorry, this is one of the most absurd things I have ever heard and I really hope perhaps she was mistaken.

I am SO thankful and flattered to attract the quality of ladies we do. Ladies – I want to remind you all that I am honored to have your respect and your willingness to enlist our services when I know many of you took a chance and normally would not have been likely to consider such services; which in turn, allows us to change your mind about what you expected, and to make incredible matches for our bachelors who we feel deserve to meet the very best.

We will always do the work, and we realize we are ONLY as good as our female membership. You ARE one of the most important clients and our men understand why.

The Early Stages of Dating

I am so happy to say that a surprising number of my clients recently in both Los Angeles and New York have placed themselves ‘on hold’ - to exclusively date a particular person they have felt a spark with during casual dating. This is a GREAT sign that all of our hard work is paying off – I am SO thrilled!

For the rest of the new clients as well as all incoming ladies who have recently joined the agency and are still newly meeting; I thought now would be an ideal time to post a refresher of what I think are the appropriate guidelines I recommend during the initial ‘get to know you’ stages of dating.

Some of you have been privately asking me many of the questions covered below as you are meeting your new matches, so I have included them here for you as well. I hope this is helpful to all who feel they may be able to use it in their current situations.

It’s OK (and actually healthy) to be meeting different people in the very early stages of dating. You do not need to disclose to someone you have just met that you are casually dating other people unless he/she specifically asks you (FYI – dating faux paux to ask a new person you just met this question! It’s awkward and very forward in my opinion, not appropriate nor relevant that early on) You should never be dishonest, however, don’t feel like you are doing something wrong by dating multiple new people to see who is out there.
Never reveal information that is too personal on a first date if you don’t have to. Let things unfold naturally; your date doesn’t need to know everything about you, the therapist you have been seeing, or your sibling’s recent stint in rehab all on the first date. It’s great to be an open, available person but in dating it’s overkill to get ahead of yourself and lay everything on someone all at once! Relax. Get to know your date slowly and enjoy the process.
Keep dates brief initially, but at the same time keep your date interested. Less is always more. (For example, when you meet someone new, don’t spend every evening together for the next 2 weeks after that – no matter how much you like each other!)
Never assume anything about your date until you get to know him/her better. You cannot always tell what that other person is thinking or simply make your own rules up as you go; by jumping to conclusions you may have totally misread or placed your own expectations on someone unfairly. NEVER ASSUME!
Your date will be interested in a person who has a life outside of them and can CHOOSE to date someone rather than out of NEED. If you like someone early on, that’s great yet, until you get to know them more or become exclusive, take your time – there is no rush to hand your heart and total loyalty over to a stranger you have gone out to dinner with three times. Nor is someone going to be attracted to a person who is clingy or needy early on.
Always be yourself. If that person doesn’t accept or like who you are, then they are not for you (which is totally OK!) Don’t take it personally or feel badly about yourself. That’s life and not everyone is meant for each other, so go find who is.. that person is out there. Next!
